Petronas CNY Ad

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

bravo to Petronas..! they have done it again..! the Chinese New Year ad from Petronas this year is by far the best that they had delivered.. they focuses on family values n specifically magnifies on the feelings of the old n lonely especially on festive seasons.. it certainly does a great job in reminding us to go home as often as we can, accompany our parents/guardians as long as the clock permits, and love them regardless of anything.. it truly touches my heart by just lookin’ at the ad.. how the old n lonely celebrate the festive seasons with simplicity, without as much as a reunion dinner with beloved sons/daughters.. with this,we must always remember to cherish our parents/guardians for they are the one who brought us to this lovely world..and they obviously do not have all the time in the world as compared to us..

The History of Saint Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day started in the time of the Roman Empire. In ancient
Rome, February 14th was a holiday to honour Juno. Juno was the Queen of
the Roman Gods and Goddesses. The Romans also knew her as the Goddess
of women and marriage. The following day, February 15th, began the
Feast of Lupercalia.

The lives of young boys and girls were strictly separate. However, one
of the customs of the young people was name drawing. On the eve of the
festival of Lupercalia the names of Roman girls were written on slips
of paper and placed into jars. Each young man would draw a girl’s name
from the jar and would then be partners for the duration of the
festival with the girl whom he chose. Sometimes the pairing of the
children lasted an entire year, and often, they would fall in love and
would later marry.

Under the rule of Emperor Claudius II Rome was involved in many bloody
and unpopular campaigns. Claudius the Cruel was having a difficult time
getting soldiers to join his military leagues. He believed that the
reason was that roman men did not want to leave their loves or
families. As a result, Claudius cancelled all marriages and engagements
in Rome. The good Saint Valentine was a priest at Rome in the days of
Claudius II. He and Saint Marius aided the Christian martyrs and
secretly married couples, and for this kind deed Saint Valentine was
apprehended and dragged before the Prefect of Rome, who condemned him
to be beaten to death with clubs and to have his head cut off. He
suffered martyrdom on the 14th day of February, about the year 270. At
that time it was the custom in Rome, a very ancient custom, indeed, to
celebrate in the month of February the Lupercalia, feasts in honour of
a heathen god. On these occasions, amidst a variety of pagan
ceremonies, the names of young women were placed in a box, from which
they were drawn by the men as chance directed.

The pastors of the early Christian Church in Rome endeavoured to do
away with the pagan element in these feasts by substituting the names
of saints for those of maidens. And as the Lupercalia began about the
middle of February, the pastors appear to have chosen Saint Valentine’s
Day for the celebration of this new feaSt. So it seems that the custom
of young men choosing maidens for valentines, or saints as patrons for
the coming year, arose in this way.

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

i jus saw the news report on TV. there was a small bomb found in Esso situated outside my Uni.the newscaster said that one of the petrol station worker found a case containing explosives.he reacted by bringing the case to be kept in the store room before proceeding to call the authority.policemen, forensic unit and fire fighters were there to get rid of the bomb.it happened about 11+ in da morning.i was in the library from 10 to about 12.while i was in the library, the Uni guard came n asked everyone who parked their car in Esso to remove them.we all thought that the authority’s gonna tow away all those cars that have been illegally parked around Uni area.but it turned out that the commotion was a result of the bomb.it’s so scary just thinking about it.u’ll never noe when n where the next explosive’s gonna be at…it’s not safe anymore..no matter where..

The Empress

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

You are The Empress

Beauty, happiness, pleasure, success, luxury, dissipation.

The Empress is associated with Venus, the feminine planet, so it represents,
beauty, charm, pleasure, luxury, and delight. You may be good at home
decorating, art or anything to do with making things beautiful.

The Empress is a creator, be it creation of life, of romance, of art or business. While the Magician is the primal spark, the idea made real, and the High Priestess is the one who gives the idea a form, the Empress is the womb where it gestates and grows till it is ready to be born. This is why her symbol is Venus, goddess of beautiful things as well as love. Even so, the Empress is more Demeter, goddess of abundance, then sensual Venus. She is the giver of Earthly gifts, yet at the same time, she can, in anger withhold, as Demeter did when her daughter, Persephone, was kidnapped. In fury and grief, she kept the Earth barren till her child was returned to her.

3rd sem

Monday, February 5th, 2007

so..wat’s up with my life u may ask.. ntg much happen lately.. started my 3rd sem. with lil’ anticipation.. although my attendance has improved tremendously,i have been going to class later by the day…now i’ll b late for about 5 mins. on average.. it’s my body..often refuses to co-operate with my brain to get myself going,my ass out of the bed.sumtimes it’s the other way round.. they just dun work that well together.. only in the morning though.classes have been ok..Accounting class’s as boring as ever..an all-the-time serious lecturer doesn’t help a tiny bit in making it better.both of Mr Quah’s Marketing classes have been enjoyable..at least i feel that my brain juices are pouring out..Ms Jasmine’s Economics class is very fast paced.she’s like a choo choo train always going ahead of time..u’ll need to be able to multi task in order to stay on the right track as her..it’s not easy to copy notes n listen to her at the same time..mid-term exams are just around the corner..next week to be exact.i’ll better pull myself together and do well for ‘em……..
